UltraEdit for Linux and Apple

Many moons ago when I was developing software for the Microsoft Windows platform, I used an editor called UltraEdit-32. For those of you who have been living under a rock for the past 15 years or so, it's the best damn editor in the world. It does everything except make your coffee in the morning and you could probably write a macro that does that.

I'd like to say that the Linux version is now open to it's beta testers. You can see some screenshots on IDM's website at http://www.ultraedit.com. Now I'm tickled pink with my iMac and thats where the good news comes in because just after the Linux version is released, the Macintosh version will be available just shortly afterwords. Yes, with all of the goodies, bells and whistles attached.

I signed up for the beta team on both the Linux and Mac versions so I'm starting to get a first hand look at the progress on each as they go along. I'll try and keep everyone as updated as possible. I'm not too sure how much information I can divulge yet because I haven't read all of the fine print but when I can let you in on the progress I will let you know as soon as possible.

If you want to get a feel for the editor and you have a virtual machine running on your Mac (I use VMWare Fusion) you can try out the Windows version on the their website. Trust me, once you've tried UltraEdit, you'll never go back to the editor you're using. The Linux people have been waiting years for this editor to come to their platform and their wish is about to come true, as is ours.
